Commercial Loan Underwriter II - (Redding or Roseville)

Merchants Bank of Commerce has an immediate need for a Commercial Loan Underwriter II. The Commercial Loan Underwriter II is a mid-level position responsible for underwriting various types of commercial loans, including providing underwriting support to the Commercial Banking and Commercial Real Estate Officers and managing a portfolio of loans.

Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Enter financial figures into appropriate programs to generate ratios, and examine data to determine credit worthiness. Compare items such as liquidity and profitability with other companies of same industry, size, and geographic location for commercial customers.
  • Assist lenders with the loan process by analyzing the current credit and financial information of individuals or firms (e.g., credit reports, tax returns, financial statements, etc.) to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
  • Underwrite the loan request and generate approval memorandums adhering to bank policy and procedures.
  • Maintain acceptable turnaround times for processing.
  • Clearly communicate loan decisions, terms and conditions to lending staff.
  • Track and update tickler system; send financial request letters and perform maintenance.
  • Review loan application packages for completeness.
Requirements of the position are a bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting, five (5) years of related experience in commercial underwriting in both C&I and CRE, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The Commercial Loan Underwriter II must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, work accurately with close attention to detail, and have the ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks.

The successful Commercial Underwriter will also possess solid analytical skills, good Microsoft Office software skills, good written and oral communication skills, organizational and multi-tasking skills, problem-solving skills, a high degree of professionalism, and the ability to work independently and as part of a group.

Staff Accountant - (Redding, CA)

Merchants Bank of Commerce has an immediate need for a Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing excellent support to the Accounting Department and adding to the positive growth of the Bank by performing accounting and financial reporting functions that adhere to generally accepted accounting principles and authoritative regulatory guidance. This is done while ensuring prompt, efficient, confidential and accurate service.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • May perform accounting functions for the Company’s investment portfolio, including but not limited to: investment transaction postings, monthly income accruals, month-end reconciliation to the general ledger, and investment roll-forwards.
  • Perform accounting functions for FHLB borrowings, including but not limited to: various expense payment postings and month-end interest expense accruals.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly accrual entries, general ledger reconcilements, and roll-forward schedule.
  • May perform accounting functions related to the Company’s fixed assets, including posting monthly depreciation and month-end reconciliation. Administer FAS software to ensure accurate safekeeping of the Company’s fixed assets, including recording additions, disposals, and transfers. Reconcile construction in progress accounts. Perform quarterly roll-forward of fixed assets. Compile tax information for the completion of the annual property tax forms, including maintaining proper tax coding in FAS. Compile tax form 4562 information for Federal and State.
  • Perform monthly general ledger reconciliation of the Company’s OREO properties. Maintain adequate file documentation to support OREO journal entries.
  • Assist in maintaining file support and lease schedule of the Company’s leases.
  • Assist with preparation of SEC reports, including 10k and 10q reports.
  • Assist with the preparation for internal and external audits and reviews.
Requirements of the position are a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent related experience. The Staff Accountant must also maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, work accurately with close attention to detail, and have the ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks.

The successful Staff Accountant will also have excellent written and oral communication skills, solid computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as problem-prevention and problem-solving skills, and a high degree of professionalism.

The Compliance and Risk Analyst is responsible for providing excellent support to the Compliance Officers and department as a whole, and adding to the positive growth of the Bank by ensuring compliance with laws and regulations that govern banking institutions.

Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Provide support to the department leadership in the preparation of materials and reports analyzing regulations and laws applicable to the Holding Company, Bank operating entities and affiliates.
  • Coordinate the review and interpretation of existing and pending laws and regulations, which potentially affect the organization’s business practices.
  • Assist management and staff with the development or revision of policies, procedures, record keeping and reports to ensure compliance with Bank policies and regulations.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a system for uniform response to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and the Bank’s code of conduct.
  • Work independently while establishing direction and obtaining commitment from Senior Management and staff.

Loan Administrator II - (Roseville, CA)

The Roseville office of Merchants Bank of Commerce has an immediate need for a Loan Administrator II. The Loan Administrator II is responsible for providing excellent customer service and adding to the positive growth of the Bank by providing loan processing support to Relationship Managers and other employees in the lending department. This is done while ensuring prompt, efficient, confidential and accurate service.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Review loan documents and files to ensure all documentation is complete and accurate:
    •  Order and follow up on all documents (e.g., preliminary title reports, environmental, flood and other supporting documents)
    •  Maintain files both electronically and physically, keep files organized, with up to date pertinent information
    • Review files and upload to our electronic recordkeeping program iDentifi.
    • Prepare paperwork for extensions/renewals and modifications
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed to collect and account for all necessary collateral and evidence of insurance (applies to insurance, collateral, deeds, and titles); track and follow-up on all outstanding collateral and ensure all collateral requested by Bank is obtained.
  • Provide prompt, efficient service to customers both in person and over the phone (e.g., process transfers and advances, post payments, disburse loan funds in appropriate cases, etc.); respond to voicemail/email in a timely manner.
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with new and existing customers by greeting them and completing transactions in an efficient and timely manner while giving them the utmost customer service.
  • Assist Relationship Manager with loan closing and account maintenance.
  • Balance necessary GL accounts as necessary.
  • Maintain Loan Status Activity Report on a weekly basis. Loans in Post Booking, must be reviewed, documents scanned and routed to Relationship Manager within 30 days of boarding.
Requirements of the position are a high school diploma or equivalent, and ten years of banking and loan administrative experience, as well as title and escrow knowledge, and a general understanding of processing construction loans. The Loan Administrator II must also maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, work accurately with close attention to detail. 
 
The successful Loan Administrator II will also have excellent customer service and communication skills, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills, and a high degree of professionalism.

Senior BSA and Risk Analyst - (Roseville)

The Roseville office of Merchants Bank of Commerce has an immediate need for a Senior BSA and Risk Analyst.  The Senior BSA and Risk Analyst is responsible for providing excellent support to the Compliance Manager and department. The Senior BSA and Risk Analyst ensures compliance with laws and regulations that govern banking institutions by the implementation, coordination and monitoring of all BSA/AML and OFAC compliance programs for the Bank and any affiliates.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a high level of knowledge (functional, operational and legal) of the rules and regulations related to banking, including, but not limited to: the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act and OFAC.
  • Assist in the oversight of BSA software solutions in order to identify accounts that appear to have unusual and/or suspicious activity, CTR filing process and exemption process, including, but not limited to application preparation and annual reviews.
  • Assist in the oversight and monitoring of OFAC compliance transactions and reports, 314(a) certifications and sale of monetary instruments to ensure the BSA recordkeeping requirements are met and, where applicable, review the respective reports/systems for the detection of unusual and/or suspicious activity.
  • Assist in the oversight of periodic analysis of customers; researching/reviewing, as necessary, accounts that are flagged as a higher risk or for other suspicious activity including working alerts, and cases.
  • Assist with Quarterly CIP Reviews and MSB tracking, preparation of monthly and quarterly BOD and Management Reports and collection and reviews of Beneficial Ownership Certifications.
  • Assist in maintaining paperwork or other related documents that illustrate the Bank’s compliance with BSA and other laws and regulations; make recommendations about needed improvements to the process.
  • Maintain knowledge and assist with the reporting of Elder Abuse and maintain an up-to-date enterprise wide BSA/AML/OFAC risk assessment.
  • Conduct regular training for the Board of Directors and staff regarding BSA/AML policies and procedures.

Requirement of the position are a bachelor’s degree in Finance or equivalent, eight (8) or more years of BSA experience with knowledge of bank operations and strong understanding of banking laws and regulations.  The Senior BSA and Risk Analyst must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, accurate information and work, attention to detail with strong research, analytical, reasoning, and problem solving skills. Experience with Abrigo or Verafin is highly desired.

Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Process data files and reports with strong attention to detail; pull data and perform data entry to facilitate the needs of Centralized Banking.
  • Meet deadlines with processing of EFT transactions – both in sending and receiving electronic transactions, and apply error resolution.
  • Provide support to front line staff by fielding questions as they pertain to processes within Centralized Banking.
